“Every child is an artist.” Pablo Picasso
‘Every school should be an art school.’ Bob and Roberta Smith 2014
Art and design plays a key role in everything we do at Sambourne CE VC Primary School. We recognise the importance of art and expression in the daily lives of our children. The topics chosen for each year group enable and encourage our children to express themselves artistically through painting, sculpture, metal work, collage and mixed media.
At Sambourne we take immense pride in celebrating the artistic skills of children. Our corridor displays are regularly changed to share the achievements of our school with the school community. They also show the progression of art skills our pupils develop as they move up through the school.
Every other year we hold an art week which immerses the children in creativity – one of our school values. In 2016 our theme was ‘Birds’. The children worked individually and collaboratively to produce an exhibition for parents. Our gifted and talented children also attended a 3d workshop with our artist in residence, Lara King, to make wirework birds. In 2018 our art week theme will be ‘India’
