British Values

"Pupils are well-prepared for life in modern Britain through collective worship and work in many subjects. This is very evident in the pupils’ knowledge and understanding of different faiths and cultures represented in British life and the tolerance and care they show to others".

Preparing Children for life in Modern Britain

At Sambourne CE VC Primary School we take very seriously our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain. We ensure that the fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed and lived out through the ethos and work of the school. Through all curriculum areas we aim to provide opportunities for a deeper and further understanding of these concepts. Our RE, PSHE and SMSC lessons provide excellent opportunities to deepen and develop understanding. Children embrace these concepts with enthusiasm and demonstrate a good understanding of how these values apply to their own lives.

At Sambourne CE VC Primary School we feel that a strong focus on British values throughout the school helps children to develop a strong understanding of the need to embrace diversity, to celebrate individuality and to value every individual. We have a whole school assembly each Wednesday which further develops an understanding of British Values.

What are British Values?

According to The Department for Education as set out in November 2014 the fundamental British Values that should form part of every school’s curriculum and ethos are:

  • Democracy
  • The rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.
